Parents allegedly shot daughter's pimp

A San Francisco couple have been arrested for allegedly murdering a young gang member who became their 17-year-old daughter's pimp. Prosecutors say Barry Gilton, 38, and Lupe Mercado, 37, tried everything to get their daughter back from 22-year-old Los Angeles man Calvin Sneed before resorting to killing him. The couple allegedly fired a shot into Sneed's car on May 27 in North Hollywood, wounding him. After following him across the state, one of the pair allegedly shot him dead in San Francisco eight days later. "They became God for a moment," Sneed's father Charles said. "They didn't wait for the judge, the trial; they did it right then and there in the street." Mr Sneed, a reformed criminal turned prison minister, said he had tried to steer his son away from criminal activities. "I wrote him letters, saying, 'You have to realize that you're pimping somebody's daughter, somebody's sister'," he said. "What else could a father do? Besides kidnapping him and putting him in a cage until his mind gets right." Both Gilton and Mercado are being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
